Hi There!
Thanks for visiting my private & personal travel blog Solo Travel Story. I gotta say I’m not the best person when it comes to self-promo so here is my clumsy attempt at an About Me page. I promise, my itineraries and travel guides are much better!
Please Note: I write a personal and private travel blog and not a public/general publication or Wikipedia entry. My content reflects first and foremost my own travel style, interests, observations and impressions. Of course you can disagree with me, but maybe my travel blog is then not a great fit for you. You are more than welcome to start your own travel blog. Please understand that I won’t tolerate hate towards me in any form.
Who am I?
I’m Carolin, a Europe-based Gemini lady who is fuelled by sunlight, good house music, and ice cream. I love writing and dream of having my content published either in print or online. During the day I work as an Events Manager and currently switch my career path to the field of International Relations. Living abroad and being shaped by various nationalities is a big part of my personality. I speak several languages and get fascinated real quick by new cultures. In my spare time I’m also an avid figure-ice skater, watch movies and I read a lot. As a prime introvert, I never get bored – I got places to be and things in the world to see and do.
English is not my first language but I try my best to avoid “sounding foreign” when I create my content.
Why I created this Travel Blog
My blogging journey began in 2014 when I was stuck at a really boring day job which didn’t allow me to take on any responsibilities and barely fed my creative mind. I needed an outlet and wanted to publish my writing. This was the birth hour of my first blog – a style and fashion blog called Style Lingua. I ran this blog successfully from 2014 to 2020 and integrated myself into the UK community.
In 2020 it became more difficult for me to take my outfit pictures and I experienced personal trauma, which disturbed my self-esteem greatly. Since then I’m really uncomfortable having my pictures taken and dislike seeing myself in images. I also noticed that fashion & style blogging was too superficial for me and I wanted more from my writing.
I decided to switch my niche to travel and re-branded. Solo Travel Story covers my own travel adventures and moments. I hope I can inspire other travellers to travel solo and want to show, that it is all easy and good fun with the right preparation and planning. Saying that I often run into mishaps myself on my travels, which is all part of the journey, and learning as a solo traveller.

My Travel Style & Interests
I’m an easy-going person with an active outdoor lifestyle. When I travel, I value style & comfort with a top-quality/cost balance. The parts of travel I splurge on are accommodation and activities. There’s no point in travelling across the world and then being stingy with entrance fees or costs for specific activities that the destination is famous for. Oh, and I’m a 100% city-dweller. For me it is important to know that I’m safe, where THE top spot in town is and what a city can offer me to keep me busy & engaged. I’m compatible with cities of high living standards & quality and places that prioritise lifestyle over the grind; e.g. San Sebastian, Brisbane, Antwerp, Leipzig, Vienna are some of my favourite cities. Helsinki has become my latest city crush!
I’m Interested In: anything culture and arts-related has my attention, think special exhibitions, art galleries, pop-up brand activations. I love nature, cycling and challenging myself. Quirky, stylish and urban locations such as rooftops or chillout lounges/ beach clubs are totally me. I’m open to new experiences and have a weak spot for Ferris wheels. Those are always the priority on my list if the destination has one. Spots for stargazing are always welcome, so are ethical animal encounters and spontaneous road trips.
When I travel, I will focus mostly on coffee culture and a connection to either the Camino or Leipzig. Anything from the 1880-1930 (art nouveau) era engages me, too. This includes coffee culture, which is still practiced today, or art nouveau architecture e.g. private buildings, train stations, botanical gardens ect
Please Note: SoloTravelStory reflects my travel style and interests. I use this blog to share how I see and experience new destinations. This may encourage and inspire others, too or provide new perspectives on how to perceive our world. Of course, my travel experiences may differ from yours, and vice versa, but they are just as valid. Please be respectful when using my website.
Not So Much: I don’t do hostels, forced socialising, or anything too hipster/alternative. I’m not interested in war crimes/terrorism/dark tourism/churches/graveyards and won’t cover these places on my blog (you are more than welcome to do so on yours). I also don’t drink, so there won’t be any reviews on bars, breweries ect
I’m also not a big fan of neighbourhood explorations or anything that is rural. It’s partly a safety thing for me and partly the way I grew up in the quiet countryside. I associate countryside with negative aspects (e.g. boring, limited opportunities, small minded people). I prefer places that thrive and I seek out destinations where life is buzzing & happening. Cities serve all of my needs and often help me to develop my personality further. Therefore, you won’t see me exploring regions that much.
Food is also not a priority for me, although I will never say no to a good stack of pancakes.
Always happy to help with your plans and hear about your travel experiences,
Happy Travels,
Carolin
