Is the Hotel Capri Brisbane any good?

For the initial three weeks of my stay in Queensland, I lodged at Brisbane’s Capri by Fraser hotel residence. The hotel Capri Brisbane was an excellent first residence on my extensive Australia trip as it served me as a “home away from home”.

Hotel residences, sometimes referred to as “serviced apartment hotels” or “serviced living,” offer fully-equipped accommodations resembling studios within a hotel setup. These apartments feature standardized furnishings and extra amenities like kitchenettes. Guests can enjoy regular room cleaning services, security, and access to laundry facilities as part of the hotel experience. Here is my hotel review of the Capri in Brisbane.

Review: Hotel Capri Brisbane

Below you’ll find my extensive hotel review of the Capri by Fraser in Brisbane, Australia. I stayed at the hotel residence for two weeks and returned a few more times during my stay in Australia.

What is Capri by Fraser, Brisbane?

The Capri by Fraser brand belongs to the luxury hotel group Frasers Hospitality. Malmaison, Hotel Du Vin, Modena by Fraser, Fraser Suites and Fraser Place are also part of the group. For now, Frasers Hospitality offers modern and luxurious hotel residences across Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

The target clientele are business professionals and affluent travellers, who wish to stay longer than the two-week holiday frame. Freelancers and remote workers are also targeted by other serviced living and apartment hotels, too. Capri by Fraser Brisbane caters mostly to a German & British business clientele, whereas the newly opened Capri by Fraser in Leipzig is super trendy and will appeal to travellers who value a trendy style.

Where is the Hotel Capri Brisbane?

Capri’s hotel residence is located at 80 Albert Street in Brisbane’s CBD. Capri is a 5-minute walk away from Queen Street Mall and a 10-minute walk from the central train station.

When I stayed at Capri by Fraser in 2020, parts of Albert Street were under construction, so at night it was very quiet at the lower end of the street where the hotel residence is.

If you walk 5 minutes down Albert Street to its end, you’ll find yourself at the City Botanical Gardens.

Inside the Hotel Capri Brisbane

When I first arrived at the hotel residence, it looked pretty unspectacular from the outside. There is a bright and modest lobby with an inviting feel to it. There is the reception and a small seating area. The vibes are unfuzzy, quiet and classy. Next door is their inhouse restaurant Black Fire which serves Spanish tapas bistro style. I haven’t dined here.

After check in, I took the lift located behind the reception area to my floor.

As I’ve mentioned, Capri by Fraser in Brisbane targets business travellers and its style is therefore classy using muted tones. The colour palette includes dark anthracite greys, black, and an occasional tropical forest green. The overall design is sleek.

On the fourth floor is a gym and a pool area. I particularly liked spending time at the gym as it had a 24/7 availability and had everything I could have asked for. You would usually see me on the cross trainer whilst my laundry washed next door.

Whilst working out, I was able to watch live go by in Brisbane’s streets down below through the hotel’s huge glass front. The gym had several cross trainers, running belts, rowing machines and weights available. Overall I found the gym well equipped and disinfection, fresh towels and free water were available at all times.

Inside the gym there was the laundry room equipped with three washing machines and tumble driers. These were free of charge to use and the hotel even supplied free bio-friendly washing detergent. These were packed in sachets for one load and perfect for me to take away one or two for my ongoing travels around Australia.

Next up is the hotel’s indoor pool. It’s not the biggest but just enough to swim a few lanes in and stretch your legs.

The blue tiles were calming but the pool wasn’t that deep. Unfortunately it’s not heated in the winter and can be a little fresh. There’s also a sauna which I didn’t use during my stay. In between the pool area and sauna were lockers to store your belongings. Towels and loungers were generously provided and on display so you didn’t have to worry about availability.

Throughout the entire hotel I noticed how clean and tidy all areas were kept.

What Are The Rooms Like?

The hotel Capri Brisbane is home to 239 suites, all conceptualised by the award-winning Ministry of Design. My Studio Deluxe was approximately 25 sqm and felt spacious and welcoming.

The entrance hallway hosted a modern kitchenette which came fully equipped with cutlery and tableware. There was a microwave and a fridge with a small freezer compartment. I also had a Breville coffee machine, free milk and was provided with tea towels and washing up liquid. The kitchenette at Capri by Fraser in Leipzig is even more advanced and has two hobs for cooking your own meals.

The other side of the hallway was occupied by a massive wardrobe that came with an integrated safe.

The main room had a generous desk area running along the entire side and the queen-sized bed. The desk area came with a docking station for my laptop and also had a pop-up make-up mirror integrated. There was so much space and I didn’t have to feel bad if I left my stuff on display.

My queen-sized bed was a dream. It was fluffy, soft and super comfy. The reading lights were operated by touch, which was a small gimmick that excited me lots. I had a relaxing sleep here, which is not taken for granted. I usually have a hard time falling asleep in hotels. Not so at Capri by Fraser in Brisbane. The hotel in general was extremely quiet. I barely heard or seen other guests. The air con ran quietly. There was no door slamming from housekeeping either, another excellent service operating flawlessly and discretely.

My toiletries and bathroom slippers were refilled and changed daily. I had two sets of towels, too. The bathroom came with a generous rainforest shower with a green mosaic wall, a huge sink with lots of space for my stuff and a mirror covering the entire wall. Again, there was so much space. I expanded accordingly and made myself properly at home.

Why I loved the Hotel Capri Brisbane

I spent my first two weeks of my Australia trip at the hotel residence and was completely delighted. Not only was I able to save money on eating out, I also got a great feel for what it would be like if I lived in Brisbane.

The launderette was free of use and the hotel provided additional eco-friendly washing detergent. I took a few sachets with me and whenever I had to do laundry, I was reminded of Capri in Brisbane. It was a lovely touch for me as I was travelling solo on the other side of the world, and this little yet unseemly gesture made me feel more settled and “at home”.

The staff were welcoming and even kept some of my mail. In fact, my first receptionist was German. You travel all the way to the other side of the world just to be greeted by a German. All of my requests were met with a friendly smile and solved swiftly. Nothing was a hassle.

There’s always that reassuring element that every traveler new in town expects when staying in a hotel chain in contrasts with boutique hotels. This I think is very important as to have – you know what to expect and the sense of home while being away from home. The kitchenette is always a bonus point for me as I usually like to prepare my food even when I’m staying in a hotel. Looks like you’ve enjoyed your stay at Hotel Capri…I have a feeling that next time, it will probably be in Capri! 😉

Hotel Capri Brisbane looks like a charming place to stay. When we’re on the road, we don’t often stay in the same place for more than a couple of nights but, if we do, we like having a kitchen area and are becoming increasingly keen on using serviced apartments. As you say, it also helps save on food costs. And it gives us the chance to explore the local food shops and supermarkets ! The facilities look great. And it’s a definite bonus that you could use the laundrette for free.

A very thorough and informative post on this hotel and one which gives me a great insight into how it would feel to stay at it.
The price is very good to for all the extra amenities you received.
A launderette is something I’ve only for in a few places, despite actively looking for them if I want to stay more than a week in one place.
It look very modern and comfortable. I was re-assured to hear that you found it very quite – a necessity that is often at the top of my list .

Sounds like a great place to stay when visiting Brisbane. I like that they gave you eco-friendly detergent. It’s those little things that can really ‘ ground’ a traveler when we’re on the move. THe pictures look really nice as well.

A hotel with a free laundry room that doesn’t charge like $5 or more per item of clothing to launder? Isn’t this a traveler’s dream?! And on top of that it looks like a really nice hotel too, I can understand why you stayed so long. The rooms seem very nice and spacious, and good to know about all the amenities the hotel has to offer

What a pleasant place to stay. The Hotel Capri Brisbane is one of those accommodations that would convince me, due to its decoration, view and amenities. Of course, comfort is also important to me, but from what I saw of your room, I’d have no trouble choosing the hotel to spend a few days in.
The fact that it has the associated services, such as the kitchen, is undoubtedly a factor that captivates me, since this way, in addition to saving money, I would feel more at home.
